David Anthony Pope Awarded Ellis Island Medal of Honor

David Anthony Pope, President & CEO of the Generoso Pope Foundation, was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor on May 11, 2013. NECO, the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, pays homage to the immigrant experience and the contribution made to America by immigrants and their children. The organization recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves within their own ethnic groups while exemplifying the values of the American way of life. The United States House of Representatives and United States Senate have officially recognized the Ellis Island Medals of Honor, and each year’s recipients are read into the Congressional Record.

Six past United States Presidents as well as Nobel Prize winners have received the award in past years. David accepted the award along side Mia Farrow, Danny Materson and Dionne Warwick. The ceremony took place on Ellis Island, with a reception in the Great Hall in the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. Mr. Pope is proud to represent the Italian-American community, and plans to continue to carry on his family’s legacy.
